Our Area

The lakes are situated near a small hamlet called Labey which falls within the village of Saint Priest Les Fougeres 24450. Saint Priest Les Fougeres is a typical French village which has some basic local amenities – a bar / restaurant, a post office and a boulangerie / small super market. The restaurant also serves takeaway pizzas for you to enjoy back at the lakes. Saint Priest Les Fougeres is a couple of  minutes drive away or a 10 minute bike ride away. Larger super markets can be found 10 minutes away such as a Carrefour Contact in La Coquille and a new Intermache in Chalus. There are plenty of “super” super markets available too which are about 30 minutes away. However you must visit some of the local french markets which sell a fabulous array of food and wine.

If you want to explore the local area there is one of the largest lakes in the Dordogne nearby which takes approximately 10 minutes to drive to, called The Barrage where you can fish, cycle or walk around (8kms) and generally enjoy the beautiful nature in this area. Fishing licences for your holiday can be purchased locally in Miallet or online. All the “boys” in our family are very keen fishermen and will be more than happy to provide you with directions to other fabulous fishing lakes and rivers although you should find you have everything you need on your doorstep here at GoGreen Holidays.

Within (approximately) a  10 to 15 minute drive you have access to three other leisure lakes which have great facilities, all free to use and enjoy, all with free parking. You are able to swim at these lakes, grab a coffee or ice cream (not free!), use the changing rooms and WC facilities, let the children enjoy the fantastic play areas and even at one lake you are able to enjoy the Velo Rail (there is a charge for this) or play crazy golf (again a charge) or Tree Climbing (again at a fee but well worth doing). These are great places to spend the summer days with your family and children, picnicking or with a BBQ, relaxing or swimming. We really are extremely lucky to be able to enjoy these great places. The lakes have designated swimming areas during the busy summer months and there are life guards.

We have plenty of tracks and trails for walking or cycleing through the forest on our doorstep. These vary in terms of length and levels of skill required / fitness and are clearly marked. We will be happy to provide you with maps and point you in the right direction.

Nearby you can also enjoy canoeing, Horse Riding, spend time at a local Donkey Santuary, visit Brantome Police Horses. We are also close by to the wonderful town of Brantome which is described as the French Venice and there are plenty of beautiful villages, caves and Chateaus to explore. The weekly French markets are somewhere you must also visit. There is always plenty to do and places to go. You find that this area is unspoilt by tourism and everyone enjoys a slower pace of life rather than trying to keep up with commercialism.

We are within the Parc Naturel Regional Perigord-Limousin in a beautiful setting of trees and rolling countryside. We are in the “Perigord Vert” region which is a natural region and part of the “Perigord” which is a former province of France which corresponds roughly to the current Dordogne department, now forming the northern part of the Aquitaine region.   It is divided into four regions, the Périgord Noir (Black), the Périgord Blanc (White), the Périgord Vert (Green) and the Périgord Pourpre (Purple). The geography and natural resources of Périgord make it a beautiful, unspoiled region rich in history and wildlife,[and the newly created Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin aims to conserve it as such.

The area is noted for its cuisine, especially its duck and goose products, such as confit de canard and foie gras. It is known as a centre for truffles in France. Périgourdine wines include Bergerac (red and white) and Monbazillac.

Our nearest airport is Limoges (50 minutes) but we are also near to Bergerac, Bordeaux and Brive airports which are approximately 2 hours away. The nearest train station is “La Coquille” which is on the trainline from Limoges to Bordeaux. Further details are provided under our address details.
